Have you heard of HPL? These days, HPL is very accessible to find as it is widely used as a finishing material for furniture and walls in homes, offices, tourist spots like malls and department stores, and even in high-risk areas such as hospitals, bathrooms, and kitchens where surfaces must withstand exposure to heat, moisture, and germs.

HPL (High Pressure Laminates) itself is a durable surface material made by layering sheets of Kraft paper, then pressing them under high temperature and pressure with resin. This process hardens and fuses the layers into a single, solid sheet. If you're looking for high-quality HPL with a wide variety of customizable patterns and textures, plus the benefit of low maintenance — Aica HPL is the perfect solution!

One of HPL’s strong points are that it is very practical and easy to apply in most surfaces, as it does not need any specific method or tool, as well as for its maintenance. Curious about how to install and maintain your HPL? Stay tuned in this article to the end to know the details!

AICA HPL (High Pressure Laminates) INSTALLATION GUIDE

Before installing HPL, make sure you have the necessary tools and materials ready. These include your chosen HPL sheet, a suitable attachment surface (such as MDF, plywood, or particle board), yellow glue and a glue roller (we recommend using Aica-Aibon S+ Glue), a manual press or press machine, a circular saw, as well as a measuring tape and pencil for accurate measurements. Once everything is prepared, the HPL is ready to be installed by following the steps below:

  1. Ensure the attachment surface is flat, dry, and free of dust or debris.
  2. Measure the dimensions of the work area, then cut the HPL sheet according to the desired size. Add approximately 1–2 cm to allow for final trimming.
  3. Apply adhesive evenly to the attachment surface and the back of the HPL sheet.
  4. Spread the adhesive using a brush or roller for optimal adhesion.
  5. Let it dry for about 5–15 minutes, depending on room conditions and the type of glue used.
  6. Carefully attach the HPL sheet to the surface to avoid air bubbles.
  7. For best results, use a press machine. If unavailable, use a rubber roller or wooden hammer to apply even pressure across the surface.
  8. Trim any excess HPL using a cutter or trimmer machine.
  9. Smooth the edges with fine sandpaper to eliminate rough or sharp areas.
  10. Double-check that there are no air bubbles, loose corners, or hazardous sharp edges. For a more finished and aesthetic look, you may add HPL edging or trim (optional).

How To Maintain AICA HPL?

While Aica HPL is known for being low-maintenance, regular cleaning and proper care are still essential to prolong its lifespan and preserve the appearance of its patterns and textures. To help you maintain your HPL surfaces properly, here are some care tips recommended by Aica Indonesia:

  1. For daily cleaning, use clean water and a soft, non-abrasive cloth to wipe away most stains.
  2. If stains persist, you may use a mild household cleaner or detergent. Always rinse the surface thoroughly with clean water afterward.
  3. Dry the surface using a clean, non-abrasive cloth to prevent water spots.
  4. For stubborn stains, apply a small amount of thinner or MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) to a clean, soft cloth and gently rub the area. Then, wipe the surface again with a damp cloth to remove any residue.

Note: Avoid using cleaning products that contain acids, alkalis, or sodium hypochlorite, as these can corrode, discolor, or damage the HPL surface.
